Meet the Board

Hello everyone!

Thanks for being part of NMALGBTIC! We’d like to introduce you to the new board.

President Thomas Anthony Chávez


Thomas Anthony Chávez, PhD grew up in the Española Valley of Northern New Mexico. He received his BA in psychology and MA in counselor education at the University of New Mexico, completing his PhD in counseling psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, he is a faculty member in the Counselor Education program at the University of New Mexico. His scholarly work focuses on Latino issues addressing youth and family, identity, mental health among undocumented/immigrant populations, culturally-responsive intervention, and integration of traditional modes of healing. Currently, he serves as the president of NMALGBTIC division of NMCA.

Past President Nandi Baldwin

Nandi Baldwin, MA, LMHC, NCC, is the Executive Director of Rainbow Family Counseling LLC.  Nandi specializes in training on LGBTQ therapeutic models and interventions. Nandi currently serves as Past President of the NM Association For LGBT Issues in Counseling.  Nandi has presented at conferences and agencies in New Mexico specific to ethical care with LGBTQ clients.  Nandi’s counseling practice focuses on children, youth and adult solution-focused care and advocacy.

Secretary Ashley Martin-Cuellar 

AAshleyshley Martin-Cuellar, Ph.D., LMFT is a post-doctoral fellow in Family and Child Studies at the University of New Mexico. Her scholarly work focuses on compassion fatigue and burnout, as well as compassion satisfaction and resilience with mental health clinicians. Ashley’s work as a Marriage and Family Therapist focuses on trauma-informed care, specifically trauma informed parenting education, including the impact trauma has on parenting practices. Ashley serves as the Secretary of NMALGBTIC, division of NMCA.

Treasurer Zoë Cornwell

20181208_130218Zoë Cornwell, M.S., LMFT is a behavioral health clinician at First Nations Community Healthsource. Zoë specializes in working with youth with problem sexual behaviors, LGBTQ youth, and families of adolescents with severe emotional disturbances. She utilizes a trauma informed approach in working with individuals, couples, and families. Zoë currently serves as the Treasurer of NMALGBTIC, division of NMCA.
